There are many beautiful beaches in almost every country, but the choice I would say is simple. Go to Varadero beach where boring is not a word. Varadero is a resorts town in Matananzas, north of Cuba. It is one of the many few beaches with a still clam sea. Varadero is called Playa which means blue sea in Spanish. Every year there comes around 300,000 people just in that area.

Ideal place for beach lovers, Varadero is one of the most important tourism destinations in Cuba, world famous for its all inclusive Hotels.

Less well known than its immediate neighbour, Cassis or the much larger Marseille, La Ciotat does have a very pretty port and the possibility of a relatively cheap day out on aboat due to its closeness to the “Calanques”. Indeed, La Ciotat has two of its own that can be walked to from the centre of town.A typical Mediterranean port that has its restaurants and bars along the quayside that seem full all day long.

During our visit to Havana, one of my favorite things to do was to just walk through the streets of Habana Vieja, admiring the contrasts of both people and structure.Old Havana has been around for close to 500 years. Many of the buildings date back to the 1700’s.You’ll get to see beautiful streets, squares & hidden courtyards. When you are tired of walking there are museums, galleries & cafes to visit.

This 5 mile long boulevard that runs from the old part of Havana (Habana Vieja) is an ideal place for mixing with the people of Cuba.Construction of the Malecon started in 1901 and its main purpose was to protect Havana from the sea. These days it is a pleasant place to wander by the waters edge watching people fishing, swimming and just relaxing along the sea wall. Also a good place for seeing the old American cars that frequent this area.

My brief visit to this magnificent hotel which stands overlooking the Malecon in Havana was where i enjoyed the perfect Cuban Mojito.Sitting in the garden, overlooking the sea on a warm ,sunny day was a joy.
The hotel was opened in December 1930.Over the years some of the guests and visitors that have been here included Frank Sinatra,Ava Gardener,John Wayne,Sir Winston Churchill and Sir Alexander Fleming.

Can’t really describe how I felt that night at the Habana Cafe. It was a mixture of feelings and all of them positive ones. I found myself looking around the place and dreaming of the past. The interior decoration will transport you back to the 50’s or before. I love vintage cars and photography, good live music and drinks, so this was for me a right place to visit. The performers that night were absolutely great;  The Buena Vista Social Club among others made my night a perfect one. The staff is very friendly and the drinks can’t be any better!! Again, you’ll love the interior; the airplane hanging from the ceiling and the old cars inside, the pictures on the walls . Let this place surprise you!!

A must during the festival !!! “La montée des marches” to see your favorite stars enter the palais des festivals. If you want to make the better of it, try to be there in the afternoon instead of the evening : they climb the stairs 2 or 3 times a day, and there are less spectators in the afternoon, so you should have a better view!!!

Gallery of Vittorio Emanuele II

P1040946   P1040952    P1050039

This Gallery, as anybody knows, was built in 1877. Gallery Vittorio Emanuele II is the Milan’s elegant lounge with luxury boutiques and restaurants. The roof of the gallery forms a cross that is well visible from the cathedral’s roof. It connects the Cathedral’s Square with the La Scala Square. The four symbols in every part on the floor represent the capitals of the Kingdom of Italy in various historical periods of that country. They are Milan, Turin, Florence and Rome.
There are shop’s and coffee bars in the gallery. So, if you would like to buy some goods from the most famous world’s designers and producers you can do it here, although you should be ready to pay the fair price for these fair and high quality goods.

Il Duomo

P1040957 P1050026

Il Duomo – the cathedral – it is the icon of Milan, the most spectacular building, the must see…

Like many cathedrals in Europe, the construction of the Duomo started in the Middle Ages, but was not completed for many centuries. Construction began in 1386 and the building was consecrated in 1418, but was only finished in the 19th century, when the façade was completed for the coronation of Napoleon.

Piazza Della Signoria

Piazza Della Signoria is the very heart of downtown Florence. You tend to pass there wherever you go, or from wherever you are coming from. It’s a beautiful square, with several great statues, and overlooked by the Palazzo Vecchio. Take special attention to the fountain with Neptune.

P1040673 P1040676

The Palazzo Pitti is a vast mainly Renaissance palace. It is situated on the south side of the River Arno, a short distance from the Ponte Vecchio.

It was built for Luca Pitti, a rich banker who wanted his new home to be bigger and more luxurious than the newly built Palazzo Medici.

Piazzale Michelangelo is one of my favourite places in Florence, The square is famous for its panoramic view over the city.

The views are breathtaking with the Duomo rising out from the city and the backdropped surrounding hills, it has to be seen.

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a Japanese wedding in plaza Michelangelo.  I talked with a few people of the group and they were very educated and joyful.  I would love to visit Japan as soon as possible!

This beautiful restaurant sits atop the hill overlooking the magnificent city of Florence with a backdrop of the Tuscany hills.

This is a touristic experience. There are better quality and better value restaurants in and around Florence.

I particularly enjoyed the home made tiramisu.

Ponte Vecchio & Arno River

P1040668 P1040836

The Ponte Vecchio is a bridge over the River Arno and is the oldest surviving bridge in Florence – it has withstood flood and war since 1345. In fact it was the only bridge in Florence to survive Nazi explosives in 1944.

It is unique, as both edges of the bridge are lined with buildings.

Today, it is a shopping arcade of sorts, traditionally mostly jewellers since the days of the Medici.

Il Duomo

The beauty of the Duomo dominates the Florence skyline and is therefore a must to visit.

From the outside this is far and away the most impressive building I have ever seen.

Just the sheer scale is amazing. I was told it took over 800 years to complete .

Charlevoix is one of the little waterfront villages that charmed me the most on MY visit to northern Michigan. I regret that I don’t have more, and better, photos to share. The town has two waterfronts – one of Lake Michigan, one on Lake Charlevoix. The marina is on Lake Charlevoix.

A number of houses in town were designed by architect Earl Young and have been called “mushroom houses” by the locals.

The Grand Hotel is easily one of the most distinguishable landmarks and buildings on the island. Its sweeping wooden porch dominates its surroundings, and the grounds in front of it are always covered in a stunning array of vibrantly colored flowers.

There is a lot of appeal in a trip across to Mackinac Island. First, no cars, so if you want to get around, bikes are a great way to go. Probably more importantly, there is the allure of fudge! Mackinac is famous for the confection, and stores that sell it line the main street of the island.

Brussels city is quickly becoming a trendy spot for weekend getaways and holidays. Apart from its famous chocolates and beers there are many attractions that most visitors cannot begin to imagine. It is a centre of European culture, officially nicknamed ‘the European Village’, with almost 90museums, beautiful parks, fascinating walks, trendy restaurants and bars.
