The monumental Strasbourg Cathedral is a huge tourist draw in this area. It is well worth seeing, but be advised that you won’t be alone.

Besides being a masterpiece of wood sculpture is also a popular for the restaurant and sidewalk cafes all around.

PETITE FRANCE

Walking through the Petite France district was a highlight of my visit to Strasbourg. Such a beautiful section of this historic city which retains the magnificent old homes and buildings.

A relaxing walk and I recommend you take the opportunity to have lunch or an afternoon coffee at one of the many restaurants along the waterway.

An alternative is to take a ferry trip through the waterway.

VARADERO CUBA

There are many beautiful beaches in almost every country, but the choice I would say is simple. Go to Varadero beach where boring is not a word. Varadero is a resorts town in Matananzas, north of Cuba. It is one of the many few beaches with a still clam sea. Varadero is called Playa which means blue sea in Spanish. Every year there comes around 300,000 people just in that area.

Ideal place for beach lovers, Varadero is one of the most important tourism destinations in Cuba, world famous for its all inclusive Hotels.

ULUS PARK

P1110929   P1110927

A beautiful park at “Ulus” district, high above hill point from which u can have a wonderful view of the Bosphorus.

My friend from Istanbul brought me in Ulus cafe which is just a couple of minutes of uphill driving from Ortaköy provides a wonderful view of the Bosphorus. The park also offers a pathway to walk and take pictures.

I think it is a must do in Istanbul just to rest and take some good panoramic pictures to take back home. Best time to be there is just before sunset. You can enjoy the day view, sunset and evening view and enjoy the lights of the Bosphorus Bridge.

SULTANHAMET

Blue Mosque – Sultanahmet

P1120001    P1120020

One of the most popular tourists sights and when visiting Istanbul a “must see”.

Give yourself time, minimum one hour, most people stay much longer. Expect to wait for entry, I recommend you visit early in the day.

Topkapi Palace

P1120308   P1120351    P1120305 P1120280 P1120244 P1120231

A beautiful building from the outside and well worth going inside where you will see a beautiful dome ceiling, excellent wall decoration, beautiful windows…

For me, the highlight of the entire palace complex was the Harem.

In a word, the Topkapi Palace is, magnificent. It is definitely one of the highlights in Istanbul. Topkapi Palace was the residence of sultans and their harems from the 1450’s until the middle of the 19th century. It was also the seat of the Ottoman rule.

I had the good luck of having dinner in Bosphorus grill in this hotel on my first trip to Istanbul.

I felt like a Sultan 🙂

Lots of details form the general feeling of luxury in this hotel, but the one sigle detail that stands out in my memory is the swimming pool. It is by the Bosphorus, in a beautiful garden, with a view of the old palace and its marble gate on one side. When you are in it you see only a white balaustrade to separate the water of the pool from the sea.

This wonderful hotel is still in the style of the 1930’s. It was the destination for the passengers arriving on the Orient Express. It was also the hotel where Agatha Christie stayed when she went missing for a period of time. She stayed here several times and it was here that she wrote her famous novel “Murder on the Orient Express”.

Palais des Festivals –  Film festival

  014    CIMG2069    CIMG2070 P1080033    P1080169

A must during the festival !!! “La montée des marches” to see your favorite stars enter the palais des festivals. If you want to make the better of it, try to be there in the afternoon instead of the evening : they climb the stairs 2 or 3 times a day, and there are less spectators in the afternoon, so you should have a better view!!!

Gallery of Vittorio Emanuele II

P1040946   P1040952    P1050039

This Gallery, as anybody knows, was built in 1877. Gallery Vittorio Emanuele II is the Milan’s elegant lounge with luxury boutiques and restaurants. The roof of the gallery forms a cross that is well visible from the cathedral’s roof. It connects the Cathedral’s Square with the La Scala Square. The four symbols in every part on the floor represent the capitals of the Kingdom of Italy in various historical periods of that country. They are Milan, Turin, Florence and Rome.
There are shop’s and coffee bars in the gallery. So, if you would like to buy some goods from the most famous world’s designers and producers you can do it here, although you should be ready to pay the fair price for these fair and high quality goods.

Il Duomo

P1040957 P1050026

Il Duomo – the cathedral – it is the icon of Milan, the most spectacular building, the must see…

Like many cathedrals in Europe, the construction of the Duomo started in the Middle Ages, but was not completed for many centuries. Construction began in 1386 and the building was consecrated in 1418, but was only finished in the 19th century, when the façade was completed for the coronation of Napoleon.

FLORENCE ITALY

Piazza Della Signoria

P1040871P1040659P1040654

Piazza Della Signoria is the very heart of downtown Florence. You tend to pass there wherever you go, or from wherever you are coming from. It’s a beautiful square, with several great statues, and overlooked by the Palazzo Vecchio. Take special attention to the fountain with Neptune.

PITTI PALACE

P1040673 P1040676

The Palazzo Pitti is a vast mainly Renaissance palace. It is situated on the south side of the River Arno, a short distance from the Ponte Vecchio.

It was built for Luca Pitti, a rich banker who wanted his new home to be bigger and more luxurious than the newly built Palazzo Medici.

Piazzale Michelangelo and Japanese wedding in Florence

P1040678   P1040698

P1040700   P1040685

P1040736     P1040740

Piazzale Michelangelo is one of my favourite places in Florence, The square is famous for its panoramic view over the city.

The views are breathtaking with the Duomo rising out from the city and the backdropped surrounding hills, it has to be seen.

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a Japanese wedding in plaza Michelangelo.  I talked with a few people of the group and they were very educated and joyful.  I would love to visit Japan as soon as possible!

La Loggia del Piazzale Michelangelo

P1040743       P1040746

P1040752        P1040758

This beautiful restaurant sits atop the hill overlooking the magnificent city of Florence with a backdrop of the Tuscany hills.

This is a touristic experience. There are better quality and better value restaurants in and around Florence.

I particularly enjoyed the home made tiramisu.

Ponte Vecchio & Arno River

P1040668 P1040836

The Ponte Vecchio is a bridge over the River Arno and is the oldest surviving bridge in Florence – it has withstood flood and war since 1345. In fact it was the only bridge in Florence to survive Nazi explosives in 1944.

It is unique, as both edges of the bridge are lined with buildings.

Today, it is a shopping arcade of sorts, traditionally mostly jewellers since the days of the Medici.

Ice Cream ” La Carraia”

P1040838   P1040841

It’s hard to name one gelateria as ‘the best’ because in Florence quality is high.  But my favorite was La Carraia .

Il Duomo

P1040802   P1040807    P1040893

The beauty of the Duomo dominates the Florence skyline and is therefore a must to visit.

From the outside this is far and away the most impressive building I have ever seen.

Just the sheer scale is amazing. I was told it took over 800 years to complete .

BRUSSELS

Brussels city is quickly becoming a trendy spot for weekend getaways and holidays. Apart from its famous chocolates and beers there are many attractions that most visitors cannot begin to imagine. It is a centre of European culture, officially nicknamed ‘the European Village’, with almost 90museums, beautiful parks, fascinating walks, trendy restaurants and bars.
